The studio crew has officially started Studio Crew Reviews! Every month, we will be trying out a different restaurant in Oakland to further explore what our new city has to offer. We believe that Oakland, because of the vibrant and creative community, has become the new destination city of the Bay Area. With each Studio Crew Review, we hope to learn a little bit more about the food community in Oakland.
Our first stop was Burma Superstar (4721 Telegraph Avenue). We arrived at around 5:30pm on a Wednesday evening, so seating for 6 was easy for the restaurant to accommodate. We ordered a wide range of appetizers and main courses, most of which were vegetarian friendly, since Pam and Cody are our honorary vegetarians.
For appetizers, we ordered Skillet Shrimp, Vegetable Samusas, and the popular Tea Leaf Salad. For main courses, we ordered Spicy Noodles, Vegetable Curry, Superstar Vegetarian Noodles, Garlic Noodles, Superstar Shrimp, Mint Chicken, and Coconut Rice. As for drinks, we ordered Mango Lassis and Ginger Mint Lemonades.
Around 6pm, we noticed that the restaurant picked up speed and newcomers would need to put their names down on a waitlist, but the wait never seemed terribly long. On that note, all of the food was served surprisingly quickly. The clear favorites of the dishes were the Tea Leaf Salad, Coconut Rice, and the Ginger Mint Lemonade. Each crew member was handed a blank review sheet to fill with their their thoughts. Please excuse our handwriting...
